During my week 8 field experience which was our last day, my partner and I arrived at our usual time, the kids were eating their lunches and this one student comes up to us and says “ How was your weekend?’ we responded with “ It was good how was yours?” and the student replied like he always does with “ well...... it was okay, I did some reading and played video games”. this student came up to my partner and I every week and asked the same question but the things is I loved it. I loved that he welcomed us with open arms and that we made him feel safe in his learning environment. We then went outside for recces and It was chilly, to all the teacher, TA’S, EA’S who have to do supervision I give you credit. After recess was over the kids when back into the classroom and got ready for gym class, well let’s just say, it was the same as last week, not good. When gym class came to an end the kids made their way back to Mr. White’s classroom, and we did this activity where we got 60 secs to talk about something we know a lot about, an experience we have had or something we enjoy. Some of the stories were really fun this one boy named Abdoul talked about his constipated cat. Another boy in the class talked about how for a week he thought one of this classmates was the subtitute teacher because he was so tall but then found out he was his new classmate. Listening to these stories made me giggle because these kids wanted to share these stories with their peers and weren’t afraid to say them out loud. While these kids were sharing their stories It make me think of how they have grown as people in the time that I have been here. How they have welcomed us, accepted us and felt comfortable around us. In this field of work the kids are everything. They are the ones that you learned from, you build that relationship with them and then you teach them in a way that they will understand.

I remember walking into that classroom on the first day being terrified of those kids, thinking their going to rip me apart. They were grade 7/8 kids many people told me “Goodluck” I never really understood what they meant As time went by I realized no they aren’t going to rip me apart because their good kids. These kids in my field placement weren’t just a pass or fail situation. They were a life placement, they taught me who I am to be as a teacher, why I want to teach and so many other things. I am happy I got placed at St. Margeurite School because that school taught me something about myself as a teacher, I never thought I would know.
